Excursion to Rio Canimar
The Rio Canimar meanders between Cuba’s capital and the idyllic Varadero, twisting out of sight into the Atlantic Ocean. An impressive 65m high bridge, the “Puente Antonio Guiteras”, with three arches rises above the river. While serving its purpose as a bridge, it also offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes as you cross it. Boat trips on the Rio Canimar are a truly magical experience; yours will last an hour and start upstream in the slowly flowing water. You will experience Cuba like no traveller before you as you pass the lush greenery through the crystal clear waters. Look out for a Cuban Spoonbill, Trogon or Parrot, all native to these areas. The boat trip will end on a beautiful and secluded bay, with a quaint country restaurant lying amidst the flourishing vegetation. Before having lunch here, you will have some time to continue your discovery of the surrounding landscapes. After lunch, there are plenty of activities to partake in; for those you want to keep exploring, there will be the chance to do so on horseback or even in a rowing boat. If this sounds too active, you could just sit back and relax on the riverbank or go for a refreshing dip. Later in the afternoon you will have to leave the wonderful atmosphere of Rio Canimar behind you as you take our transfer back to Havana.
